Task 1 (Graph) -The graph below shows the different modes of transport used to travel to and from work in one European city in 1960, 1980 and 2000.
The
bar graph given is the representation of the change in the usage of different
modes of transport used by people for commuting to and from the office in a
European city in 1960, 1980 and 2000.
Overall,
it is evident from the graph that the commuting preference of people by bus,
bike and foot showed a decline while that of car increased over the given
period.
In
1960, most of the people preferred to walk to work rather than depending on
other modes of transport and it accounted to 35 percent. This preference nearly halved to 17 percent
in 1980 before dropping to 10 percent in 2000. The proportion of people who
used bike to commute to and from work was around 7 percent higher than that of
the bus commuters (20 percent) in 1960. While the usage of bike for commutation
to work plunged to nearly 7 percent in 2000 after a decrease to about 23
percent in 1980, that of bus showed a modest increase to 27 percent in 1980
which later experienced a drop by 10 percent.
In
contrast, car was the least preferred mode to travel to work by people in 1960,
which was opted only by a mere 7 percent. However, it underwent a substantial
rise to 25 percent after 20 years which further showed a remarkable increase to
approximately 37 percent in 2000.
